Six-Pointed Pendant, Sterling Silver
This piece is rhodium-plated sterling silver. Rhodium is one of the rarest precious metals, a member of the platinum family, and it is the same bright white finish used on fine white gold jewelry. The silver is plated in white gold, polished, and then plated a second time in rhodium. The result is whiter and harder than bare silver, and it won't tarnish.
◄ CARE FOR RHODIUM-PLATED SILVER ►
This piece is sterling silver plated first in white gold and then in rhodium, a platinum-group metal that keeps it bright white and stops it from tarnishing.
The plating is thin, so be gentle. Wash it in warm water with mild soap and dry it with a soft cloth. Skip silver polishing cloths, silver dip and toothpaste, which work by removing a layer of metal, and here that layer is the rhodium. Take it off for pools and hot tubs.
After years of wear, the silver underneath can start to show through. Any jeweler can re-plate it.
