Sierpinski Star of David

The design started with a Sierpinski Triangle in my cellular automata experiments. I thought to myself, "How could I turn these triangles, which theoretically has an area of zero and never overlap, into a physical object?"

The design represents mathematical perfection and the divine, the convergence of reason and reverence. It bears a strong resemblance to the Jewish Star of David, but you don't have to be Jewish to enjoy fractals and triangles. It is an excellent gift for Jewish relations, Jew-ish friends, but also secular humanists, scientists, and mathematicians, for a secular holiday gift. It can go on a tree, or it can be hung from a window.

The Sierpiński triangle (sometimes spelled "Serpinski") is a classic fractal—an endlessly repeating geometric pattern that’s self-similar at every scale. It starts with an equilateral triangle, and through a recursive process, smaller triangles are removed from the center of each larger triangle, creating a lace-like structure that’s both simple and infinitely complex.
